I'm Andrew Macdonald, (AKA Mr Mac) and I write The Super Weirdos!
I grew up in Central Otago and as a kid I loved nothing more than playing sport. Running around on the sports field with my friends was all I wanted to do, and as a result, I never thought I was a reader or writer. That was before I learned that anyone can learn anything!
I started writing these novels in the hope of getting my sporty kids to enjoy reading teaching them growth mindset along the way. Little did I know what they would become!
My books have reached kids all around the world! Incredible. Kids have laughed at my Kiwi humour while my free teacher resources have saved teachers planning time and got their kids laughing
I love making kids laugh and helping them understand how growth mindset works. This is where kids learn that intelligence is not fixed and with effort, grit and determination, they can become whoever they want to become.
I love learning and through writing this series I learned a lot about perserverance. My first book took FOUR years to get right and I nearly gave up many times. My wife reminded me of the purpose of my book, to teach growth mindset. When my friend who was meant to illustrate the book broke her hand and couldn't carry on, it was nearly the end for The Super Weirdos. But through turning this problem into a 'probletunity' I slowly taught myself to use a drawing pad on my computer and finished off the book. Now I have the skills to carry on my series by myself!
I'm really proud of what I have achieved and can't wait for your kids to join the thousands of weirdos who love my stories!
